Certificate about to expire -- how to update with least disruption

We have a self generated certificate (not CA signed) that has validity of 10 years, but for some reason AWS lists that it is not validated after two years and it is expiring in a matter of days.
Is there any way to upload the new cert to the server with out having to have our hundreds of users update their configuration files on the endpoints?
