Server can't ping Client

Good morning everyone,
I have 2 devices connected to the same LAN and I am using OpenVPN to encrypt the messages sent between them. I don't use firewalls, NAT or anything, since they are on the same network.
OpenVPN works perfectly for me, but there is something quite strange. The "Server" cannot communicate with the "client", if the "client" has not established communication with the "server" previously.
e.g.: The Server cannot ping the client (Host unreachable), but the moment the client pings the server, the server automatically starts to communicate with the client (The server can now ping the client).
Why does this happen, do I have to provide any configuration?
Thank you very much in advance
