Akamai and OpenVPN

I'm using OpenVPN at a cloud provider and its behind Akamai.
I'm able to connect to the OpenVPN instance if I use the IP of that instance. If I use the domain name it will give in an error.

NETWORK_RCV_ERROR.
Also Wireshark on the client is showing that the traffic stops at akamaiedge.net.
Does Akamai not allow the OpenVPN protocol ?

Thanks - Just for clarification.
Akamai does not support the OpenVPN protocol ?
