Open VPN connect on Android randomly deleting imported profile

Chromebooks using Open VPN Connect
* User downloads .ovpn file to CB downloads folder (being the only file download on device at any time so far).
* User successfully imports profile into Open VPN connect.
User uses VPN daily for months/weeks and Users have logged on every day - multiple times. VPN is fine.
Randomly - Chromebook asks for user to "log in" using email address (almost like account setup).
* Open VPN connect then app asks for "URL" for profile. Manually imported profile is gone.
* User gets usual profile with installed apps (meaning they are still there and are not auto-installing again),
but downloaded OVPN file is missing from downloads folder
and Imported profile in Open VPN connect is gone.
I do not understand this behavior.
I can almost get Chrome OS removing downloaded files (sensing corruption?? for whatever that means)
But why, oh why, would Open VPN connect lose it's imported profile.
Where exactly does OVPN Connect store its' configuration?
Anyone encounter this before? Google is useless for support, I only get "sensing corruption" and Google removes locally downloaded content.
