Greetings community...
I had a problem when i trying to install latest Openvpn on my windows 10. I just downloaded the 64bit version of OpenVPN 2.5.0 from https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/ to install it on my 64bit Windows 10.

but every time i want to install it, i got an error when installation goes to "Creating TUN/TAP adapters" with this error name;
" OpenVPNMSICA: tap_create_adapter:
DilnstallDevice failed Error - 536870397: "

I deleted all of my VPN Adapters from windows settings but it didn't solve the problem. Here's an image from all of my available Adapters:

Anyone could help me with it i will be much appreciated...

And because of this error i can't install any VPN app, or even if they're installed, i could not connect to their servers (like Hma, Nordvpn, ect ...)

And i don't have any Antivirus on my system. Not a single one (i even disabled windows defender long time ago)
So this issue wouldn't be related to Antivirus

This is the only report of such a problem .. so it is probably something wrong with your Windows.

Hi there. Thanks for your reply. I don't think I'm the only one that facing this problem. Cause i found another one had the same error:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=31440

Then it is either your anti-virus or your Windows is broken beyond repair.

I magically figured it out!
This is what i done:

- first i downloaded OpenVPN 2.4.9 and installed it with all its components ( from https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/ )

- then i download and installed this:
openvpn-install-2.5_git_wintun-I607-Win10.exe
From here:
http://staging.openvpn.net/openvpn2/

- after that i go to wintun site and downloaded latest version of wintun:
https://www.wintun.net/builds/wintun-0.10.zip

And unzip it and copied all of it's files to Program Files\Wintun-Windows
Also pasted the unzip wintun folder to my Program Files

And after those i head back again and installed latest OpenVPN 2.5.0 ( from https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/ ) and this time it simply installed and didn't get any kind of error

After a lot of trouble I simply installed 2.5.0 but disabled the win tun adapter option during installation. The other tap installed without protest.

Since the above I did a fresh install of 20H2 and then the OpenVPN installation ran without trouble - both adapters in place. It seems that upgrading to 20H2 is the problem, while a fresh install of the same is ok.
