Hi
I live in Iran and the regime of Iran has filtered a lot of foreign websites
for bypassing the censorship I have configured OpenVpn on a VPS which is abroad (in Germany) , and I transfer all my Internet traffic through that
Now I what to know , Can the regime of Iran eavesdrop Internet traffic and find out than I am using OpenVpn ?
Or , Does OpenVpn Network Traffic have special or unique characteristics , that they can use it to find out that I am using OpenVpn ?
For example , I know that they can find Tor traffic and they have blocked Tor , Do they can find OpenVpn traffic too ?
Thank you

Who ever controls the network controls the universe ..
Yes, they can and probably will detect that you are using a VPN.
They may already have done so but have not blocked you yet ..

A new law is passing through the Congress that says "Every body who prepare and issue VPN will be send to prison"
Now , can I use a special configuration that they can't find me ?

stunnel.
It will look exactly like HTTPS.
But if they are advanced enough they could still do pattern recognition in the traffic flow and decide to take action.
And you are connected to one destination constantly which is also a hint...

To be clear: Using up to date OpenVPN (Version 2.5), server
and client, with default configuration:
- The data inside the tunnel can not be eaves-dropped / deciphered.
- However, that you are using a VPN is clear to see.

If your government are threatening you then you would be wise to heed their warning.

No. There is no possible way to hide from your Internet service provider and therefore your government. If you use a VPN then this
will be detectable no matter what steps you take.

@TinCanTech
I see no disagreement.
