Unable to Access VPN through certain WiFi

Post by thehawkes » Wed Oct 23, 2019 4:10 am

I'm using multiple iOS devices. All have OpenVPN installed. When outside my LAN, sometimes the VPN connection can't get through to my NAS when connected through an auditorium's WiFi, even though there are no blocks or limits on the auditorium's WiFi network. In my line of service, I have multiple auditoriums with password protected WiFi that I use. I have the WiFi passwords to all the auditoriums' WiFi networks. If I disable WiFi on my device and connect via 4G hotspot, OpenVPN works perfectly and allows me remote access to my NAS. Disabling OpenVPN and then using WiFi normally works fine (albeit I can't access my NAS/Server remotely). Enable OpenVPN, though I can access DropBox etc. via the connection, my NAS is inaccessible from these few auditoriums. The remote connection to the NAS always works when using 4G, regardless of the device (iPhone/iPad) I'm using. Any guesses as to why this may be happening? Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions...

There's probably either a subnet conflict or some limitation on the auditorium's wifi. I know you say there isn't, but evidence indicates the opposite. You should read the logs and see what it says there.
I'm still alive, just posting under the openvpn_inc alias now as part of a larger group.
