I have set up open vpn on my ubuntu box and when i try to connect to it from my wifi i get and error message saying: Tap-windows adapter "wif-fi" not found. i added wi-fi to the config, was not sure what to add, if i comment it out i can connect but then it does not encrypt my connection i can still see my ip address. Any ideas this is my first time configuring this to linux. Thanks.

1. Verify that your internet connection is working, when disconnected from the VPN. Try loading a website.
2. Verify that the server you are connecting to is online and available on the server status page.
3. Double-check that you are using the correct username and password.
4. Try changing the connection to another port and/or protocol,
5. Temporarily disable any firewalls or anti-virus software on your computer and retry the connection.
6. Try another internet connection, some types of connections are particularly problematic such as public hotspots, cellular hotspots and hotel internet connection
7. Try another device as there may be an issue with your local device.

Most connection failures are caused by something blocking the connection to our servers. Before you begin troubleshooting a blocked connection please check the following: Verify that your internet connection is working whilst disconnected from the VPN. Try loading a website or pinging a web address such as 8.8.8.8 .

1. Open Device Manager
2. Find Network Adapters
3. Uninstall WAN Miniport (IP), WAN Miniport(IPv6) and WAN Miniport (PPTP).
4. Click Action > Scan for hardware changes
5. The adapters you just uninstalled should come back
6. Try connecting again

The OpenVPN connection may be failing because of various reason. Try pinging a web address before connecting to VPN. If it's working fine then try uninstalling the drivers and reinstall them. Then scan for new hardware and try above-mentioned steps again. It may work then.

Good luck.

Open Device Manager
Find Network Adapters
Uninstall WAN Miniport (IP), WAN Miniport(IPv6) and WAN Miniport (PPTP).
Click Action > Scan for hardware changes
The adapters you just uninstalled should come back
Try connecting again
Have you tried these couple of things?
