I am new to OpenVPN. I am using a device using OpenVPN 2.3.6-2. I have used easy-rsa2 for generating keys and certificates for OpenVPN, by following instructions in the link https://openvpn.net/community-resources ... hority-ca/. I am using windows7 OS. I had done following steps:

c:\Program Files\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> init-config
c:\Program Files\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> copy vars.bat.sample vars.bat
1 file(s) copied
c:\Program Files\OpenVPN\easy-rsa> vars

ERROR:The System was unable to find the specified registry key or value

Why it's showing like that? How to resolve this error and go further for generating OpenVPN certificate?

I am using OpenVPN 2.3.6-2. Also, when I tried to execute build-ca command, it showed error " 'openssl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file". I have downloaded easy-rsa from this link: https://github.com/OpenVPN/easy-rsa-old

Can I generate OpenVPN certificates and client configuration file(with '.ovpn' extension) by using easy-rsa2 package installed in a PC(which is not an OpenVPN server)?

Which is 5 years old .. please upgrade to a new version, preferably 2.4.x

I would also recommend using Easyrsa 3 : https://github.com/OpenVPN/easy-rsa/releases
