Can't Connect to Router Config Page

Hi Guys,
bought a VR2800 tp-link modem router and I tried to configure an openvpn connection via android.
Everything works just smooth and I use phone data as if I am connected from within my home lan with no issues to report so far.
The only things I cannot do
1. connect to the router's login page by putting down the relevant IP address. Error <404 forbidden> given. I do not have the common 192.168.0.1 subnet, so there's should be no conflict related problem on this side.
2. can't get remote apps for smart home devices like audio speakers and smart tv to work. I can successfully ping devices ip addresses as if I am physically connected to my home wifi, but I cannot control those devices using their remote apps as if I am at home.
The second one is a minor issue actually as I think it's an app related problem, maybe those apps don't work when not physically connected to a wifi even if I am in vpn (don't see the reason for this btw).
What I cannot understand is the first issue. For testing purposes I set up a pptp vpn connection and everything works ok. So it look like it is an openvpn related issue. I've also tried some port triggering\forwarding configuration with no luck.
Thanks for any support given
