How to add a new cipher to openvpn

Hi everyone,
I want to add a custom cipher to OpenVPN, what steps I need to do in general? I did search in the forum but did not see any answer to this. The only related topic I found is viewtopic.php?t=17396 but it did not get any respond. As I google around, I think I should add my cipher to OpenSSL first, maybe by static build or build dynamic engine, and then somehow use that cipher in OpenVPN. Is that right? Anyone can give me more details?
