Hi,
I have been using Open VPN through Vanished VPN to privately use the internet. I am using Windows 7.
I have had several problems recently. One is that the internet randomly disconnects the LAN connection from time to time and has been problematic to reactivate. I discovered a possible issue that causes this today. After exiting Open VPN I noticed the internet connection had been lost. I checked the Network and Sharing centre which showed the standard red X between my modem and the internet. I went to "Change Adapter Settings" and noticed that both the LAN2 port (Ipv 4) and the TAP Windows adapter 9 connection were enabled. When I disabled the TAP adapter, internet was restored, suggesting a conflict.
When I restart Open VPN I notice the TAP adapter has been enabled but there is a red X between the modem and internet, indicating the internet has dropped off. When I disable the TAP adapter, internet comes back again, but of course the VPN is not functioning.
I am thinking all this is related. Any help anyone could give would be appreciated.

Re: Internet disconnects when OpenVPN activated
Further to the post above, I have tried uninstalling and deleting the drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling open vpn (build 2.4 rc2-1601). Still the same situation. When I connect to open vpn the tap adapter shows as activated, but the internet connection is lost. Disabling the tap adaptor restores the internet connection, but obviously no vpn.

Re: Internet disconnects when OpenVPN activated
Further to the posts above, my vpn provider has advised of network problems. I have run tracert, and it times out at the fourth step, and I have tested internet speed. I get 111 mbps on a standard connection and 0.05mbps on the vpn connection. So, I suspect what is happening is that the very low speed on vpn is being interpreted as a cable problem by the system.
