Windows 10 - Disconnect TAP driver on reboot

I have set up OpenVPN to auto-connect when Windows 10 starts. It seems to work just great, except that I get an error when Windows reboots: "All TAP-Windows adapters on this system are currently in use."
I understand that this is most likely because the TAP adapter was not properly disconnected from the previous session. If I disable the TAP adapter and then enable it again, I can then connect just fine. However, this defeats the purpose of setting openVPN to start/connect automatically on Windows start up.
Does anyone know a fix for this? I am sorry if this question has been asked/solved before but I could not find it in the forums. Is there a way to disconnect the TAP adapter automatically on shut down/restart/going to sleep so that it can connect back automatically when Windows boots?
Notes:
In order to make OpenVPN start on startup I scheduled a task in task manager to run the openVPN GUI on start up and auto connect. Could I possibly create another task that disables/enables the TAP driver on startup? If so, how do I do that?
Thanks in advance!
