I'm very confused. When I open the iOS app, I get a help screen. But where's the app? When I close the help screen, there's nothing behind. The two ads at the bottom remain. But I have no OpenVPN Connect screen as shown in the documentation. Thanks.

You need to copy a profile sending it by mail or via iTunes.
