Possible to use OpenVPN Connect with Cyanogenmod V11.0?

I have a phone running Cyanogenmod v11.0 and would very much like to use OpenVPN Connect. I can install OpenVPN Connect just fine and imported a profile and entered my username/password from my VPN provider. However, when I attempt to connect I get the following message:

Android Bug
Sorry, due to a known bug in this version of Android, it is not possible to gain permission to open a VPN tunnel.
Is there any kind of work around for this issue?
