First, apologies if it is not the right topic to post; at least it is the most lively.
OpenVPN Portable for Windows has been discontinued
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ovpnp/
Any easy solutions left to make OpenVPN on Windows portable? Or plans to make the official buidl portable? Thanks

Sorry. I don't buy it that I am the only single person who cares about a portable OpenVPN client for Windows. Anybody?

OpenVPN Portable is a separate project and is not supported by this Forum or the Devs of OpenVPN-CE.
Also, using a VPN requires sufficient access rights to the routing table to add routes and as such, the very
Idea of a portable version of OpenVPN, that can be used without administrative rights to any Windows system,
is absurd.
The user MUST have the necessary rights to install a transient TAP driver AND alter the routing table.
Niether of which are given to standard users under windows without an Administrator making the
necessary provisions.
Therefore, OpenVPN Portable .. A portable APP for use by users at there own discretion, is impossible.
Even if a different approach is employed, whereby a user interacts with a pre-configured † service,
in order to install that service in the first place the user MUST have administrator access.
So .. in short .. OpenVPN Portable is Dead .. and for good reasons.
† Pre-configured: apparently, not in the UK/US dictionary ?

OK. I have to clarify myself: I am the admin so I have admin rights; but, say, I want the OpenVPN setting to be saved on D: not C:, so:
A) I can simply plug (on a USB) in my setup to more system installations (where I have admin rights) and use it without configuring and installing on each system
B) I am admin but I use a Faronics Deep Freeze-like solution to fight viruses; I have to keep my setting not on the system drive but on a portable drive
Are these legitimate requests and is there a solution for me?

Bump. No one knows of a solution or no one cares about it?

Not that we don't care about helping fellow members here, but as Traffic has stated, OpenVPN portable is
NOT supported.
You may try your luck by surfing to
https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/lis ... nvpn-users, subscribe to the mailing list and re-post your question(s)
in plaintext there. I don't guarantee you will receive help there as, I repeat, OpenVPN portable is NOT supported.

I mean: no one cares about the issue = no one has the same issue? Sorry for the confusion.

I don't really want to go down unsupported route but maybe there is a way to store official OpenVPN configuration files no on C:\Users but in a custom directory? That would help a lot. You know, it is quite a big trend making software as easily portable on a USB as possible; not only by 3rd party hacks but buy the vendor of the software as well; why not?
Thanks.

OpenVPN is
not portable and never will be due to the constraints I explained before.
Do
not use the Openvpn users Mailing list .. you will not get any response for the same reasons made clear to you already.
