How to force iOS to use VPN connection

Hi,

When I connect to a wireless hotspot, iOS detects that it is connected to the internet, fetches my notifications and emails etc., before I get chance to start my OpenVPN connection.

This means that anyone sniffing the hotspot has already got all the information about me, that I didn't want them to get, defeating the purpose of using a VPN tunnel.

Is there anyway to force iOS to use only the VPN connection and only once it is established?

I have searched the forum and although there a similar posts, none seem to directly address the security related question.

All help appreciated.

Anthony

Hi,

You are worrying as the same thing as I do.

Some guys above are asking about pause bug, which occurred after iOS 7 update. Our concern is, that app isn't pausing it anymore. I think.

I've understood that pause was there to prevent unencrypted data to leak, if VPN wasn't ready. Apple just broke the reconnecting procedure and no data went no where (?).

What we are doing this app, if it leaks like a leaking mmmh bucket?

Can someone explain this, please? And yes, Apple sucks. They don't appreciate their customers.

Yours, Andy

Andy,

I think I understand what you are describing.

In the android version, under the preference menu, there is an option you can select called "Seemless Tunnel - Block Internet while VPN is paused or reconnecting"

Unfortunately such an option doesn't seem to exist in iOS.

I hope someone will address the issue.
