OpenVPN, a solution for VPN disconnection after lock/sleep?

Hello

I am disappointed to see that my new iPad Air's VPN function is useless because each time my device auto-locks or sleeps VPN gets disconnected and my real IP is revealed via push notifications. I have to enable it each time it returns from sleep via Settings.. Annoying, useless and ridicilous... Upon some research, I learned in disappointment that iOS has got this problem for years in spite of many user complaints...

I am looking for a solution for this. I wonder if OpenVPN app stays connected, if it is secure to use it on iOS for security and privacy. Can you give me information on this please?

(If there is not any solution for this problem, I am planning to sell the device with a price drop as it is useless without an usable internet connection. Without VPN, internet is not safe nor free in Turkey.)

Additional Question:

If yes, I'll buy a VPN service compatible with OpenVPN app, as my current provider, hideIPVPN is not. Any suggestions for that? Reliability for privacy, no logs, bittorrent, high speed is important for me.

debbie, thanks for your answer.

It seems that this app can automatically reconnect after wakeup. Correct?

So, it means there are VPN connection interruptions/disconnections on iOS when using this app during sleep/lock?

And there will still be push notifications/connections during sleep/lock and my IP will be revealed?

So, not secure?
