iPad and browse windows shares ?

I see that there is new open vpn app for ios.
Can it be used with some other app to browse & download files from the vpn network's windows share or smb nas drive ?
I see that there is apps that can open window shares quite nicely, but does the open vpn make a real vpn-connection to ipad so that all the traffic is going trough that ?
