Can't connect to local server on 4.4

Since upgrading to a nexus 5, I've been able to connect to my vpn, but unable to connect to local addresses (192.168.x.x) once connected. I've got the exact same setup as on my tablet, which works fine.
Have google changed how vpns work (again) with kitkat?
I'm still using OpenVPN for Android, rather than OpenVPN Connect, as my vpn provider only provided me with a ca cert, no PKCS#12
I have an open support ticket with them to resolve this, in case this is the issue.

Hello,
I Have the same issue since I updated my Nexus 4 to Kitkat, with both openvpn connect and openvpn for android applications.
I can't ping my getaway and I can't reach my computers connected on my local network.
Did you manage to fix this problem ?

Hi
I have a Nexus 7 (2013) and I have this problem too. Do you guys get any update on this? I also tried to google this issue and this seems to be the only place I find this problem?
Best Regards

This also seems connected to "redirect-gateway def1". If that option is not pushed or specified, then the local network can be visited just fine. But of course I need that option since most of the time that is the whole purpose to use VPN for me.

If you can get an adb shell on the device, can you do a
before/during VPN connection so we can see what the Android 4.4 VPN API is up to.
