SSH over OPENVPN

Greetings:
I had an openvpn setup with all my clients devices (the ones my company manufactures) connected to a central monitoring server thru openvpn. This server is a virtual machine running behind a comcast modem in which I configured the port forwarding.
Finally, after much request, I was allowed to take all the setup to the cloud, specifically to a virtual server in rackspace. The devices connect properly and I can not only ping them, but also use their admin interface (https in the standard 443 port).
Nevertheless, I cannot ssh into them (I could do it in the previous setup). The ssh server in the devices, is on the 999 port.
Any thoughts?
I do not know if this was the proper place to place this post, if is not, my apologies, just direct me to the right place.
Thanks in advance
