i'm having real trouble figuring out how to connect a client

First of all, sorry if posting in the wrong section. i really searched for a client help forum but didnt find any.
Ok, recently i see the website's changed a bit and i somehow can't find openvpn-client anywhere.
My setup is as follows.
I'm using a centos 6 server box that has openvpn installed from source version 2.3.2.
It's configured to auth via openldap using the openvpn-ldap plugin here http://code.google.com/p/openvpn-auth-ldap/ and it worked just fine about a month or two ago.
I had windows 7 clientside previously and the openvpn client that had a client.ovpn config file somewhere in it's program folders. (don't remember the exact path)
Now i upgraded to windows 8 and i didnt even think about saving the setupfile somewhere, and behold, there's no such thing anymore on the openvpn.net page. all i see are privatetunnel and "openvpn-client" but it has nothing to do with the ex version interface, i was used to just putting the config file there and forget about it.
now this new openvpn client fancy gui tries to connect to https on my server (which runs apache for a whole different purpose and not in any way related to openvpn whatsoever) and fails with a "this is not an openvpn acess server" .
My question is
is openvpn-2.3.2 that i installed on the centos box obsolete ?
does this openvpn-access-server replace it ? is it a suite alltogether ? is this the new way of packaging openvpn and must it absolutely include the https server ?
if not, how can i for the love of God connect to my darling openvpn-2.3.2 ldap-auth beloved server ?
can i please have someone point me to a human readable changelog in structure/organization cause last time i visited (about 2 months ago) i remember the website and all being quite a bit different.
thank you.
