openvpn ios ovpn conf with certs help

Are there instructions on how to generate certificates and keys using easy-rsa 2.0 and the format of the ovpn configuration file to import into ios for the openvpn app? FWIW I've got openvpn running as a server on linux and can connect from a linux client using a .conf file that has certificates and keys inline. This same .conf file renamed as .ovpn and emailed and imported onto iphone is parseable by openvpn app but no connection seems to happen.
