Hi,

I download the latest version of Openvpn for use of Microsoft Hyper-V. I have Microsoft 2013 Hyper-V setup and i have assiged the Openvpn the legal network card as per the openvpn instructions. I have also given it 2 CPUs and 4 GB of RAM within Hyper-V.

The CPU usage on Hyper-V is always low for the openpn server and i have even tried switching off all th eother virtual servers to test with just the openvpn server running.

However even on UDP based conections my vpn speed is very slow. My internet connection is 60MB download and 20MB upload, but speedtests conducted through the vpn give me 2MB download and 1MB upload.

What else can i look at?

Thanks,

Rishi

Is the machine in your LAN? You are limited by your line otherwise.

The openvpn serves the Internet and my Internet line speed is 60Mbps download and 20Mbps upload. It is obviously on the LAN buts the router NATs the udp and tcp ports to the openvpn server. The 20Mbps upload would indicate I would at least get a very good VPN connection.

I will test the the VPN itself by doing a VPN to it via the LAN itself which will tell me if there is any issue with the server setup or not.

Testing on the LAN with a 100Mbs connection gives me a speed of 1/4 when connected to the VPN on the same LAN as opposed to when not connected to the VPN.

What could cause this significant drop is speed?
