Can't start a connection starting from the subnet?

I have openVPN access server installed on a subnet in the amazon cloud in a VPC. I can access machines in the subnet through the VPN fine, but I'd like for the machines in the subnet to be able to discover machines in the client subnet. Is that possible? Can anyone advise on how to set that up? I appreciate the help.
