Disconnecting when minimized

Hi all
I'm sorry if I've missed this problem posted before...
I've just installed OpenVPN onto a new tablet and this is happening..
It connects fine and the icon appears at the top of the screen but as soon as I minimise it to open another program it disconnects.
I have the app installed on my phone and another tablet and it works fine.
This tablet is running android 7.0. I don,t know if this has any bearing on it.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Im facing this too!

Mine usually happens when I open games like Subway Surfers and it's disconnects immediately...

I need a solution to this
