Issue with Openvpn-server and network-manager-openvpn-gnome

Post by Zavod » Thu Aug 06, 2020 5:31 pm

Hello community!
I got strange issue:

I have OpenVPN-server (2.4) that connect clients to private subnet (not all traffic but few additional routes + DNS) this setup works flawlessly till i move server to another machine and upgrade it from 2.2 to 2.4 version. All configs stay same (i repeat, server pushes to client only few additional routes and DNS no other options and no push "redirect-gateway ... ).
And this bug appears, linux users connected via network-manager-openvpn-gnome got their internet blocked. Turned out new default route to VPN server appears and block user from using their local default route.
Users connected via terminal (#openvpn --config /path/to/config *.ovpn) or on Windows, MacOS, Androids obliviously didnt get this rough default route and can work normally.
Red arrow rought route, yellow arrow - good default route. I can restore internet by deleting it manually but this is not a solution.

Ill try to use this feature of gnome manager:

Not worked at all - it block all traffic to vpn subnet and to internet.
Any one experience this bug or maybe have solution to it ?

Sorry for my bad English, not a native speaker.

The short answer is, do not use Network-Manager to badly manage your VPN connections.

The long answer is, report this bug to the Network-Manager support channel .. what-ever that is ..

I wonder why this bug appears only on 2.4 version ? on v2.2 all works as intended.

Probably something that Network-Manager has not kept upto-date with in OpenVPN.
