Connection stats graph uses wrong scale

Post by nophead » Sat Feb 08, 2020 12:50 pm

I am using OpenVPN connect on Win7. It works fine but the connection stats graph never goes above 2B/s even when watching video. The peaks of the graph are also truncated as if they are higher but the scale is only ever 0 - 2B/s. The text below only ever shows 0, 1 or 2 B/s in. Why?

The page of statistics show more realistic numbers but some seem incorrectly labelled. For example BYTES IN is much bigger than BYTES OUT but TUN BYTES IN is much smaller than TUN BYTES OUT as if they were swapped. Or do BYTES IN become TUN BYTES OUT as they pass through the VPN tunnel?

Can't help you with the graphs but probably this will help you with the question,
"Or do BYTES IN become TUN BYTES OUT as they pass through the VPN tunnel?"

I gloomily came to the ironic conclusion that if you take a highly intelligent person and give them the best possible, elite education, then you will most likely wind up with an academic who is completely impervious to reality.

I think it comes down to what IN and OUT mean. Are they in and out of my client PC or in and out of the OpenVPC client software?

I'm seeing the same thing. I generated some traffic, and couldn't get the graph higher than about 200B/s when I know it should have been more like 600KB/s. Ie multiply it by about 3000. The shape of the graph looks ok.

If I disconnect and reconnect, it goes up to about 50KB/s, ie about 1/10 of what I'd expect. Later on, it reverts to showing a much smaller figure again.

I believe you should report this to OpenVPN.Inc
