iOS Open VPN - No Certificates?

Post by shatland29 » Sat Dec 29, 2018 7:50 pm

Hello,

I have OpenVPN set up on a Synology drive. I also have an SSL certificate used that is on the server. The OpenVPN server is configured properly and set up on the Synology.

I am trying to use OpenVPN on iOS to connect to my VPN. I imported ca.crt, ca_bundle.crt, and VPNConfig.ovpn files to my iPhone via iTunes (all files came from the Export VPN Configuration within Synology).

I am able to connect to my Home VPN just fine, but there is nothing in Certificates for this connection and there is nothing in the Certificates screen on the iOS application.

Sorry if this is a basic question, but should something be present in Certificates? In looking at the log files everything seems fine but I don't have an advanced level of experience with this topic and not sure if something is missing or insecure.

Thank you in advance for any help.

If you can login you're fine.

Synology doesn't use certificates for logging in. It uses username/pass only. :-(

i'm not sure about that. you must select the certificate otherwise youre connection is not secure.

The VPN is still secured by the cipher algorithm, certificates are used to verify the peers.
