OpenVPN on AWS

Post by samala » Mon Oct 22, 2018 2:04 pm

Hi Community,
I want to inquire if OpenVPN on AWS (community version not the commercial one) is experiencing issues. It was fine until a while ago, and it seems to me like after OpenVPN launched their commercial version on AWS, some stuff has been happening if you're using an AWS instance that runs OpenVPN server (community version) on it. Do you guys can provide more insights ?
Thanks

For instance, traffic to S3 is blocked. I recall, such things happened when OSSEC service was launched on AWS, we couldn't install manually OSSEC on any EC2 AWS instance.

OpenVPN Community Edition is far to simple to interfere with AWS
except by your own misconfiguration.

I presume you have not installed an OpenVPN Access Server product ?

No I've not, that's what I'm asking for,is there a problem for using OpenVPN community version in AWS EC2 instance and make it act as OpenVPN server ? I wasn't a problem and it was working fine until these recent days

This should work .. but

There are probably things like firewall etc in AWS which OpenVPN Access Server takes care of for you
but which OpenVPN-CE does not.

Is there any way we can exclude IPs from being routing through OpenVPN,something we can add to the server config file ?

It depends on your configuration (currently missing)
