Is every relevant search term blacklisted as "too common"

Post by aaronhilton » Fri May 04, 2018 5:56 pm

Just out of curiosity, why is it impossible to do any productive searching on these forums? It seems like every word that I search for that is relevant to the issues I am having are resulting in an error that "the words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words." I can search for useless terms all day, but when I look for anything VPN-ish, I'm denied...

These "too common" words include iptables, firewall, address, range, command, conf, and I'm sure many others....

Why in the world would the forums be configured to disallow searches for the exact things that the forums are designed to help people troubleshoot?

Can someone fix this to make things useful?

The search function on this Forum has never worked for me ..

I use google or duckduckgo with the "site:forums.openvpn.net" identifier.

EG .. Stick this into google:

Code: Select all

site:forums.openvpn.net redirect gateway windows block-outside

that's probably because fulltext search is not enabled or it's broken

As I understand it, this Forum runs on a VM. The search function is disabled because when it was enabled the Forum was too unresponsive.

I've updated the forum search index and our common word settings so that the functionality works now. Please test and make sure it's working as you would expect it to and provide any feedback.

Thanks!

I will continue to use google, it is much faster and more flexible.
