connected... but not?

Hi all,

I have a VPS at a hosting company on which I've set up an openvpn server.

I have also installed the Android client on an Nexus 7 tablet (Android v4.4.2)

I've imported the .ovpn profile and can connect to the server. The status icons indicate I am connected.

From the log on the Nexus, I see the route 10.8.0.1 listed and local IP 10.8.0.6.

But when I go to a site to check my IP number, it indicates the IP number of my local ADSL connection, not that of the remote server.

What part of the puzzle am I missing here?

I see this on the app page in Play:

* Known issue: Android 4.4 has many issues with VPN API.

I'm wondering if this is why it isn't working.
