OpenVPN Installation error
Hi. I've used openvpn in the past with absolutely no errors, but lately I've been getting the Error Installing TAP Drivers message, and I have no idea how to fix this. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and even trying to delete reg keys related to openvpn and such, but to no avail. I've been using Open VPN 2.3.2 and I'm running Windows 8 64 bit edition. Any suggestions are welcome.

Re: OpenVPN Installation error
I tried installing PIA vpn that went well. The only thing that gave me a problem was uninstalling it. I followed the directions on their forums, but upon deletion, it deleted everything including the tap drivers. So I reinstalled PIA vpn, and manually deleted just the PIA software, which was no help either, because then I installed OpenVPN, and got the same Error installing TAP driver message. So, I'm lost at the momentdebbie10t wrote:You can try this as a work-around, let us know how you get on if you try it.

Re: OpenVPN Installation error
Hello. I installed both PIA and Openvpn, and followed the instructions on how to uninstall PIA on their forums. I left the tap driver installed from PIA, and went to connect to a server on OpenVPN, but it keeps giving me the Could Not Connect error. And saying that there are no TAP drivers installed on windows. I have PIA installed right now, and the TAP drivers have not been removed at all.debbie10t wrote:Edit: These are only suggestions, this is not an official work-around.
- Install PIA VPN.
- Install OpenVPN
- While in the OpenVPN installer options: Deselect the "TAP Virtual Adapter" option

Re: OpenVPN Installation error
It makes sense to read other forum threads with similar problem, and post your install error log section, where the errors are - they are marked with "!!!".
Or follow this workaround, it seems to be more universal. You may want to try the package as 0 step instead of installing HotSpot VPN driver as in that workaround.

Re: OpenVPN Installation error
So I have a question. I go into my device manager, and look under network devices. I can't find the TAP adapter anywhere. I see unknown device, and privacyprotector miniport drivers, though. Could that be what's causing my problem?

Re: OpenVPN Installation error
Is there any software that will install just the TAP drivers?
