OpenVPN in Ubuntu: How to tell if VPN is being restarted??

I am using OpenVPN in Ubuntu.

How do I tell if my VPN connection is being restarted or disconnected?

Guys, please share your knowledge with us.

Note: In Microsoft Windows OS, the complete OpenVPN client (Community edition) includes OpenVPN-GUI. When a VPN connection is being restarted or terminated, the little icon on the bottom right hand corner of the taskbar will turn either yellow or red.
