OpenVPN, pfSense, esxi

Post by petterg » Wed Dec 26, 2012 4:58 pm

Hi! Internet, DHCP, etc. is working. Now I'm trying to set up openvpn on my pfsense machine virtualized in esxi. By following different guides I've created the certificates and set up the server with the build in wizard and exported with the export utility. But when i try to connect from my client, nothing happens:

Code: Select all

Wed Dec 26 16:36:49 2012 OpenVPN 2.2.1 Win32-MSVC++ [SSL] [LZO2] built on Jul  1 2011
Wed Dec 26 16:36:58 2012 IMPORTANT: OpenVPN's default port number is now 1194, based on an official port number assignment by IANA. OpenVPN 2.0-beta16 and earlier used 5000 as the default port.
Wed Dec 26 16:36:58 2012 WARNING: Make sure you understand the semantics of --tls-remote before using it (see the man page).
Wed Dec 26 16:36:58 2012 NOTE: OpenVPN 2.1 requires '--script-security 2' or higher to call user-defined scripts or executables
Wed Dec 26 16:36:58 2012 Control Channel Authentication: using 'pfSense-udp-1194-uservpn-tls.key' as a OpenVPN static key file
Wed Dec 26 16:36:58 2012 LZO compression initialized
Wed Dec 26 16:36:58 2012 UDPv4 link local (bound): [undef]:1194
Wed Dec 26 16:36:58 2012 UDPv4 link remote: myip:1194
Wed Dec 26 16:37:58 2012 TLS Error: TLS key negotiation failed to occur within 60 seconds (check your network connectivity)
Wed Dec 26 16:37:58 2012 TLS Error: TLS handshake failed
Wed Dec 26 16:37:58 2012 SIGUSR1[soft,tls-error] received, process restarting
How the network is set up in esxi:

The machine is connected directly to the rj45 jack from my ISP. Any thoughts?

Kind regards
Petter

You have setup exactly the same as my one.
Assuming OpenVPN server is setup correctly - there is no way to make a mistake and all should be working fine.

Have you got client export utility installed? Can you post a config here
