Connectivity Issues

Post by vinay10us » Wed Mar 06, 2024 4:51 am

Dear Team,

Please urgently assist me where i am unable to connect through OpenVPN Client on my laptop through cloud to a On premises server behind a Site to Site VPN Connection hosted on AWS Cloud. The OpenVPN Server is also hosted on the same AWS account in the cloud. Is there any specific configuration i should do in Open VPN server level of Site to Site VPN

I also have the same issue with connectivity. Did you find any solution?

Samsung A23 does not allow loading and using our .ovpn file.
OpenVPN updated to the last version.

Make sure your OpenVPN server's security group allows inbound traffic on the correct port (usually 1194).

To connect your OpenVPN Client to an on-premises server behind a Site-to-Site VPN on AWS Cloud, you may need to configure routing and NAT settings on your OpenVPN server. Here are some steps to help you:

Check Routing Table: Ensure that your AWS VPC routing table contains a static route directing traffic from the VPN client subnet to the OpenVPN server instance.

NAT Mode: If using NAT mode, traffic from VPN clients will appear as if it's coming from the OpenVPN server itself. This usually requires no special configuration Patient Portal Summit Health

Routing Mode: If using routing mode, where the source IP of VPN client packets remains unchanged, ensure AWS security features are not blocking this traffic. You may need to implement a static route that directs replies to VPN client traffic back through the OpenVPN server instance.

Disable Source/Destination Check: Ensure that the EC2 instance security setting "Source/Destination Check" is disabled to allow traffic through.

If you continue to experience issues, reviewing the OpenVPN server logs and client logs can provide more insight into the problem. You can also refer to the OpenVPN documentation for more detailed troubleshooting steps.

I wish to create a VPN to support a remote member of my family : from "me to him", RDP and Quick Assist ; from "him to me", access to my LAN seen as local for him.
And I also like to connect to LAN when out of home (3 PC's could then be remote).
My side LAN (server Synology/DSM 7 and PCs/W10 or 11) is powered by a router (Cisco RV260P), itself connected to the Internet provider box.
The remote member's PC is W11 powered, and connected to Internet via the Internet provider box. For tests, this PC is connected to Internet via a smartphone (S21 Samsung), used as 4/5G access point.
The Cisco routeur is OpenVPN server capable (with AES 256), and I set it to, then generate the ovpn client file.
As far as I know, firewall and NAT rules are defined for the VPN port.
Client side, I download OpenVPN Connect (3.6.0) and applied the ovpn file generated by the routeur.
Any error raised during these processes.
Connection is impossible (time-out).
I noticed that OpenVPN Connect displays the IP address of the router defined for the provider box. Any references is shown to the static WAN address, or to the 10.*.*.* address defined as virtual IP for the client.
Could you help me with a step-by-step debug method ? Your Guide to set up and configure seems very clear, but I do not "link" with router setting (with also a clear tuto), neither with remote PC OpenVPn log.
I am afraid I do not really understand what VPN is ...
Thank you very much for help.
