peer certificate verification error

I have been using my ASUS Router as an OpenVPN server for a long time without any issues. Suddenly I can no longer connect from my iOS devices: I get the peer certificate verification error, no matter how many times I download the ovpn file. on my windows laptop I get a different connection error: missing external certification. But when I click continue, it connects to the VPN server and everything is just working fine. My Fire TV – also set up with open VPN – connects without issues. What is wrong and how do I fix this?

i ended up spending more less the whole day rebuilding after a factory restore and it is working again
