Connect via terminal without the browser flow

I'm trying to connect to openvpn programmatically or via command line, without opening a browser, is it possible?

If I run the openvpn command it will open a browser window to authenticate, and I'm ssh'ing to the machine so there's no X11 server or $DISPLAY, etc. It won't open a browser window to authenticate unfortunately, so trying to see if it's possible to connect via terminal only.
