Change remote on openvpn access server

Post by Ibrahimessbai » Wed Aug 16, 2023 4:40 am

I created an open vpn access server on ubuntu and I want to change the remote. I wish you could communicate between the client and the server through a dedicated channel of my choice. For example, I want to use the Google IP 142.250.191.206

Hello Ibrahimmessbai,

I am sorry but I cannot make a lot of sense of what you say. I'll try to explain what I know and hopefully it connects with what you want. The OpenVPN directive 'remote', which is put into the client connection profile, tells the VPN client where to connect to for an OpenVPN connection. This is either an IP or a DNS address. This corresponds to the 'Host name or IP address' field in the Access Server settings.

You cannot put in just any random address. It must be an address where your Access Server or OpenVPN server can be reached.

If 142.250.191.206 is indeed your Access Server's IP address, then go to the Access Server Admin UI and go to Server Network Settings and in the Host name or IP address field put 142.250.191.206 and save settings. Now any NEW connection profile will contain that address. Existing connection profiles don't get automatically updated. You'll have to get a new copy of the connection profile after making this change. And then OpenVPN clients will use the address 142.250.191.206 to connect to your VPN server.

Kind regards,
Johan
