ovpn-file doesnot change

Post by janas » Thu Jan 19, 2023 8:40 pm

Hi,
I´m using OpenVPN server on my Synology NAS.
I have been in contact with Synology, but they can´t help me.
This is what I wrote to Synology support.
"I was using LastPass until the latest breach. I did store the content of OpenVPN-server ovpn-file, as a secure note.
Maybe not so secure anymore...
The ovpn-file contains
<ca>
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
...........
..........
and
</ca>
key-direction 1
<tls-auth>
#
# 2048 bit OpenVPN static key
#
-----BEGIN OpenVPN Static key V1-----
...........
..........
My feeling is that it´s a bad situation if my vault will be cracked.
I created a new cert from Let´s enrypt, but the info in the ovpn-file is still the same as before, after exporting VPN server config.
I even changed my DDNS name and created a LE certificate for that, but the ovpn-file is still identical in the Certificate and Static key sections.
Is there any way to make the content of the ovpn-file to change, so it becomes "secret" again?
Or did I missunderstand the whole concept?"
As I see it, the content (cert and key part) of the ovpn-file, is similar to a 2FA.
Username/password and a secret (the ovpn-file).
What can I do to restart with a new ovpn-file with different cert and key?
You can probably read between the lines that I´m in no way an expert in this.
All I want is a secure as possible way to acces my NAS remotely.
Best Regards
