Client will not install in Windows 11 ARM

Post by Steve_C » Sun Aug 08, 2021 5:16 pm

Download and run the .msi for install. All goes smoothly running with admin privileges. Install gets to a certain point (copying new files) rolls itself back, quits and displays a message that it could not finish. As you can see from this log capture I tried a few times to install:

Yep, same problem for me. The only version I can install on my ARM windows 11 (which is a VM running on my M1 mac running parallels) is the community edition of 2.5.7, but I need to give demos to people, and want to use the real client that they would be using.

Hello,

At this point OpenVPN Connect v3 for Windows is compatible only with x86_64 and x86, but not ARM. The alternative available is OpenVPN GUI for Windows. Sorry.

Kind regards,
Johan

Hi Johan,

is there an update to unblock the installation of Windows 11 on ARM?
I am currently using Windows Dev Kit 2023 and x86_64 and 64 emulation is pretty solid.
(Microsoft would recommend ARM native apps because they are faster).

If there was an install beta that included x86_64 or x86 but removed that blocker for installing on ARM, I would test that and give feedback.

Sincerely,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

For ARM Windows the OpenVPN GUI program is currently still the client to use.

Kind regards,
Johan
