[surfshark] local address / endpoint?
I'm fairly new to trying to figure this all out, so please go easy? I'm trying to bind the "endpoint" for OpenVPN to a static address. It keeps trying to use anything in the 10.7.7.XXX range, and I'd like it to stick to 10.7.7.13 is possible, instead of dynamically picking something random.
>ipconfig
Unknown adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.7.7.5
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
I've tried several options in the .opnv file that I've seen in other documentation, such as: local, endpoint, etc. But the log indicates these options are [UNUSED]. I've been searching forums and documentation now for a couple of days, and no luck. Is there some option so I can stick the local IPv4 Adress to a static one?

That's a totally helpful answer.... not?
And you're an admin/mod? Wth? Why do you people act like this? I've seen such other answers given on other questions, and seriously don't understand why you even bother?

One might equally call your question a trolling question.

Re: [new user] local address / endpoint?
I honestly don't know, I've been scrambling. I saw the term endpoint used in this... https://openvpn.net/community-resources/how-to/
I'm going to try to use some new terms, and maybe convey what I mean better: I'm just trying to set the virtual adapter IP address?
As I said, I'm new to all this. Cut me some slack here

You may find --ifconfig-push in the manual of help.

Re: [new user] local address / endpoint?
I've been trying to set this option in the .opvn file.. I don't have any idea what OpenVPN Connect for windows considers the server file? There's no sample config files in this edition either. There also not really a documentation for this product, that I can find on the website anyhow?

Re: [new user] local address / endpoint?
It does not work that way because it must be pushed by the server.

Re: [new user] local address / endpoint?
I gather that much, but how do we configure the "server" in this case? I've tried modifying the virtual connector IPV4 settings, there's no agent configuration that I can find, and the documentation doesn't exist for this product.

You must configure your server.

Re: [new user] local address / endpoint?
I don't know what you mean by that. I use a 3rd party VPN service (surfshark). There is no way for me to "configure" their servers. They wouldn't be the ones setting an ip address on my system anyhow. This version of OpenVPN uses a windows service called OpenVPN Agent it seems, as a sort of mock "server", but I don't know how or where it pulls its configuration from. And doesn't seem to matter if you set the IP address for the TAP adapter manually or not. It's ignored when the connection is made.
Sure would be nice to talk to someone who knows more about this, than I do. Does OpenVPN have any official support channels or discord for this particular product? Because it seems like our confusion is, you think I've been talking about openvpn this entire time.

Re: [surfshark] local address / endpoint?
Hi,
The IP on the TAP adapter is pushed by the server you connect to, it cannot be set client side, you are the client.
So, to have a static tunnel address (IP on TAP) you would have to ask Surfshark.
Question is, why you want it to be static?
PS
Lets keep it friendly peeps...
