Can't auto connect to a profile on Windows 10

Post by carlostico » Thu Jun 17, 2021 1:58 am

Hi, I just installed OpenVPN but for some reason, it doesn't auto-connect to the only profile I have when I start windows.
It launches OpenVPN but I manually have to connect it
I copied the file in the auto-config folder, is there something else that needs to be done?

Thanks !!

Hi,
can someone explain to a non expert how to sort this problem in simple terms.

OpenVPN GUI starts automatically when my laptop starts.
but the icon is grey & i have to right click & connect & turn it green.

how do i start up my laptop & auto connect, so the icon is green on re-start?

i've searched here, on google, etc but no luck.
i'd like a simple step by step explanation please.

thanks!!

Hello carlostico and jas2021,

You can:
- Use OpenVPN Connect v3 and use the settings in there to set it to automatically connect after reboot and if necessary remember password.
- Use OpenVPN Connect v3 with an auto-login type profile (requires no user input) and use the Windows service daemon mode to have it start completely automatically outside of view even before user login.
- Use OpenVPN2 GUI and load an auto-login type profile into the auto-config folder and set up its service component so it runs as a Windows service daemon to start completely automatically outside of view even before user login.

Note that you can also do automatic start without auto-login profiles if you save username/password responses in a plaintext file, but for obvious reasons, we advise against doing that. Also note that if an MFA response is required that is also a hinderance to automatically establishing a connection.

OpenVPN Connect v3 download page:
https://openvpn.net/client-connect-vpn-for-windows/

OpenVPN Connect v3 in service mode:
https://openvpn.net/vpn-server-resource ... emon-mode/

OpenVPN GUI in service mode:

Kind regards,
Johan
