Can't connect to my Router without ERROR messages...

Post by RaphaelXWB » Thu Nov 01, 2018 5:03 pm

Hello there

A few weeks ago i bought a new Router the Netgear R7000P and tried to connect my Lapotop to the VPN....

After multiple tries and hours of googeling and watching You Tube tutorialls i endet up heading out here for help...

I want to try to connect my Lenovo P50 to my Routers VPN Server...

I did everithing according to the manual and got stuck here:

These are the settings given from the router:
client
dev tap
proto udp
sndbuf 393216
rcvbuf 393216
push "sndbuf 393216"
push "rcvbuf 393216"
dev-node NETGEAR-VPN
remote name XXXXX
resolv-retry infinite
nobind
persist-key
persist-tun
ca ca.crt
cert client.crt
key client.key
cipher AES-128-CBC
comp-lzo
verb 0

And i get the error message:
Thu Nov 01 14:01:36 2018 WARNING: No server certificate verification method has been enabled. See http://openvpn.net/howto.html#mitm for more info.
However this page couldn't really help me...

After research and tons of tutorials and studying web pages i endet up with follow settings:

client
dev tap
proto udp
sndbuf 393216
rcvbuf 393216
push "sndbuf 393216"
push "rcvbuf 393216"
dev-node NETGEAR-VPN
remote schmidhome.mynetgear.com XXXXX
resolv-retry infinite
nobind
persist-key
persist-tun
ca ca.crt
cert client.crt
key client.key
cipher AES-128-CBC
comp-lzo
verb 5
--remote-cert-tls client

With these settings i didn't got any error messages anymore however these connection texts...:

Hello TinCanTech

I'm sorry since but since my openvpn server my router is, i have no idea where i would finde the log files...

Is it right that i downloadet this program?: https://swupdate.openvpn.org/community/releases/openvpn-install-2.4.6-I602.exe

I made all the settings according to that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yUwjvrv2Qo

Do you mean the logs of the OpenVPN GUI....?

By the way i have a dynamic ip... If that is need to know...

Thanks i will read it now...;-)

Thanks in adwance

Hello there and new idea how to fix the issiue? I can not finde the server log because my server is going to be my router.... And my normal Router Log atleast isn't showing anything... I opend now the ports 1194 and put it as a exception on my Kaspbersky because it's replacing my windows firewall...

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in adwance

See --tls-auth in the manual and then see what you have configured.

Hello there...

I made some progress:

Client Log while trying to connect....:

Sat Jan 12 11:20:15 2019 OpenVPN 2.4.6 x86_64-w64-mingw32 [SSL (OpenSSL)] [LZO] [LZ4] [PKCS11] [AEAD] built on Apr 26 2018
Sat Jan 12 11:20:15 2019 Windows version 6.2 (Windows 8 or greater) 64bit
Sat Jan 12 11:20:15 2019 library versions: OpenSSL 1.1.0h 27 Mar 2018, LZO 2.10
Sat Jan 12 11:20:15 2019 Outgoing Control Channel Authentication: Using 160 bit message hash 'SHA1' for HMAC authentication
Sat Jan 12 11:20:15 2019 Incoming Control Channel Authentication: Using 160 bit message hash 'SHA1' for HMAC authentication
Sat Jan 12 11:20:15 2019 TCP/UDP: Preserving recently used remote address: [AF_INET]10.10.10.1:12345
Sat Jan 12 11:20:15 2019 Attempting to establish TCP connection with [AF_INET]10.10.10.1:12345 [nonblock]
Sat Jan 12 11:22:16 2019 TCP: connect to [AF_INET]10.10.10.1:12345 failed: Unknown error
Sat Jan 12 11:22:16 2019 SIGUSR1[connection failed(soft),init_instance] received, process restarting
Sat Jan 12 11:22:21 2019 TCP/UDP: Preserving recently used remote address: [AF_INET]10.10.10.1:12345
Sat Jan 12 11:22:21 2019 Attempting to establish TCP connection with [AF_INET]10.10.10.1:12345 [nonblock]

The only change i made is at the clients configuration:
Instead of "verb 3" i made "verb 2.4.6"

Server Log is still showing nothing...

Any further ideas, suggestions?

Thanks a lot in adwance...:-)
