Integrated Python Interpreter

Post by hsquared » Mon Aug 23, 2021 9:48 pm

Hello,

Does anyone know if the integrated Python interpreter that is available in the 2.x client is still available in the 3.x client? We are currently using the 2.7.1.111 client on Windows machines and leverage the integrated Python interpreter to run a short user-connect script. It work like a charm. However, this same script does not work with the latest 3.x client. All of the available documentation still seems to imply support.

Hello hsquared,

We are aware of that particular piece of documentation you refer to, and we will be updating it to make things clearer. For now I can at least confirm for you that OpenVPN Connect v2, which is now considered a legacy client, had a limited Python interpreter built-in. But OpenVPN Connect v3 does not, and we do not intend to bring it back either. You can still however run Python code in client connect scripts on OpenVPN Connect v3, if the operating system has Python installed on it.

Kind regards,
Johan
