Feature Request: Import .ovpn Profile with integrated Files App

Post by madalius » Thu Aug 05, 2021 9:28 am

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering, whether there are any plans on alternative options for importing existing ready .ovpn Profiles.
A really handy way to do integrate this, could the integrated Files App on iOS and iPadOS
Sometimes there seem to be problems importing when importing profiles from mails. In addition, the alternative via iTunes is, in my opinion, now very cumbersome, time-consuming and outdated.

Is there currently a way to solve this problem via the Files app on iOS?
That would be very great!
Perhaps such an import method could be introduced with a future update

I appreciate your feedback and reactions and wish you a pleasant day

With kind regards
madalius

Go to files. Find your x.ovpn file. Touch and hold or otherwise select it. Choose share from the menu. On the "share sheet" choose OpenVPN client to share to. Done. I'm not sure why this is kept as such a secret! This can also be done with the right Shortcut.

I was making a small amount of fun: I can't get OpenVPN working to use the internet, despite establishing a connection to my choice of servers in London, Tokyo, Dallas, Ashburn, but whenever I see OpenVPN discussed in the context of IOS, they're trying to figure out how to get Itunes or email file transmittal working. That is why I said it was kept as a secret. I think ios/ipados make filehandling quite difficult as represented by the confusion, but it's really one simple task.

You need to factor in the number of "smartphone" users there are now...
