Connecting Off Home Network

Post by pastorsuzie » Wed Feb 10, 2021 12:39 am

So I am new to OpenVPN. I am on an iphone 12. I imported and set up the Open Vpn configuration in the app on iphone. On my home network it connects. When away from home on cellular it times out and never connects. The configuration must be correct for it to connect on home network but struggling to figure out why it won't away from the home network. Obviously the point of OpenVPN is to connect away. Any help is appreciated.

See --remote in your client config.

Hi There,

--Two things:
  • It is possible that the PLMN on where your phone currently connected is blocking OpenVPN. Can you please confirm which mobile network your connected? Is the PLMN and ISP in which your able to connect the same?
  • Or, you have setup or deployed Access Server or your VPN Server in which your connection profile contains an entry that is pointing to your Private IP and not the Public IP where your OpenVPN Server/Access Server is reachable over the internet. You might also want to check port forwarding to see if traffic makes it through.
