Usernames longer than 64 characters not possible. Token-based auth impossible

I use cryptostorm, a token-based VPN provider. You use the token as username without any password. The tokens are SHA512 hashes which are 128 characters long. Since v3.0.0 it is no longer possible to use the service. Are there any plans to change that or do I need to look for another app instead? The first option would be my favourit ;) Any insight on why the username is now limited?
