I have an OpenVPN server (2.4.6-xenial0) on Ubuntu with both udp and tcp. I can connect fine with Windows. I can also connect with iOS fine if I go through Settings -> General -> VPN.
However, if I connect through the OpenVPN iOS app I get two errors: NETWORK_EOF_ERROR when connecting via tcp, and KEEP_ALIVE_TIMEOUT via udp. I find it strange that connecting through the VPN profile method works no problem, but the OpenVPN App does not work at all. No errors in the server logs.
Any ideas why the app is giving me problems, but not other methods?

Re: iOS - Connection error through app but not VPN profile
I've had somewhat similar issues with the app every now & then. Usually means something in iOS got scrambled up.
I suggest...
1- uninstall the app
2- reset network settings in iOS
3- reinstall OvenVPN app (will request you to authorize it to make VPN changes)
4- import your *.ovpn profile again
Painful to some extent, but has worked for me before.
Good luck.

apastor - thanks for the advice. Uninstalling and reinstalling fixed it right up!
