I have seen a couple of historic posts asking similar questions but nothing indicating any official position or offering a solution.
I'm using miui rom and there isn't google play on my Android phone. So, i cannot download openvpn connect from Google Play store. is it possible to install official OpenVPN Connect without using the Google Play store? Maybe there is official APK which is hosted by openvpn, please share the link. I see on the openvpn.net website shares google play link only.
If not, is it safe to download/install openvpn connect app from other sources like https://apkpure.com/, https://www.androidapksbox.com/, etc?

Unfortunately there is no official APK direct download link.

OpenVPN Connect is offered via PlayStore and Amazon Marketplace.

Installing an apk from a third party service is always risky because you don't know if the apk is the official one or it was modified.

That is true - in general. But it is not true if you download an apk directly from the developer (in this case OpenVPN). It would definitely be the official apk.
I'm surprised there is no official apk link. Usually a developer provides such a link so that people can directly use an apk without being routed trough an app store. So i suggest OpenVPN provide such a link.

After an internal discussion I realized (I did not know yet) that we maintain some standalone downloads. You can find it here:

i have seen many websites providing open vpn SPAM DELETED... , are they even safe or if not why can't open vpn create their official site

There are some alternative app stores like yalp store that download the Alps directions from the google app store. Haven't heard anything bad about that one

Hi guys. Im too looking for the newest apk aswell. Wanna install it on Android TV.

There are also some countries where OpenVPN is not available on Play Store. It would be very helpful to have official APKs available from reliable source instead of needing to rely on 3rd party sites with possibly compromised security.

I second that. Not all countries provide access to PlayStore. It would have been amazing to have an official page where the latest APKs are listed.

Absolutely! And an official APK is more secure then downoad from 3rd-party.
So WHY there is no official APK?

Oh, I have the same problem, I need apk for use it on device without PlayMarket, but I can't use it from no trusted resources. Why we can't download apk or at least have checksum for every release?

For the latest Android Connect app (3.3.4) there is an official link for download:
https://swupdate.openvpn.net/downloads/ ... (9290).apk
However, for future releases there may no longer be an official .apk download link for distribution.
So i would advise downloading the app from Google playstore.

Hello. I have a tablet with Android 7 operating system. Unfortunately, I cannot download the OpenVPN Connect app from Google Play because the latest version of the app requires Android 9 or newer.
I kindly ask you to provide a link to the latest version of the app(APK file) that supports Android 7 here.
I believe this will be helpful not only to me.
As far as I know, OpenVPN Connect version 3.3.0 supports Android versions 4 and above.

Thank you for this link. But why OpenVPN command can't created page wit links for download apk files signed with GPG and with calculated SHA sums?

Today I asked support why? And I received the answer:

We distribute the official installer exclusively through authorized platforms such as Google Play Store and Apple App Store. We do not provide APK file from any other sources other than these.

But this answer doesn't look convincing to me. Because I can download community signed windows version directly from site https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/
I think this way sufficiently secured, because it excluded third party company in delivery chain.
